Kakkab is the brightest star in the constellation of Lupus. It had been identified as a Beta Cephei variable since 1956. This means the stars brightness will change rapidly due to pulsations on the star's surface.

Stellar Classification: Class B1.5 Giant
Chemical Makeup: He, C, Al, Mg, Si. The star would switch which one was present in the spectrum. The rotation goes from Carbon to Helium, them to Aluminium, then to Magnesium. Finally it would go to Silicon.
