Medicinal Plants in Missouri.
Missouri has two predominate habitats: Eastern Deciduous Forrest and Tall Grass Prairie. Native Americans have used plants from each habitat for 1000's of years to treat disease and medical maladies.
It is very important to identify the the plants correctly, because some plants that look very similar but have different medicinal uses, or may be detrimental to your health. Species from other habitats would be useful/prudent to know, because it would help your overall knowledge and if species may grow in other places.
On the downside, winter is not as useful for fixing maladies, because most plants aren't in bloom, so any medicines that need to use the flowers cannot be used due to lack of them.
Scientist can use local flowers for development of new medicines due to their natural chemicals.
I would trust a reference texts to treat maladies, because the plants are extensively researched on their uses/historical uses.
